A stained, dated tub doesn't always mean a demolition job. Reglazing (also called resurfacing) restores an existing tub to a glossy, like-new finish in about a day, at a fraction of what a full replacement costs. Here's when it's the right call, and when it isn't.

What reglazing actually is

We clean, repair chips, lightly etch the surface for adhesion, then apply a professional Topkote coating system. The result is a smooth, glossy surface that looks and feels like a brand-new tub, without tearing out tile, plumbing, or flooring.

Cost and timeline comparison

• Reglazing: $450 for a standard tub, up to $850 for a tub-and-surround combo. Most jobs are done in a single day, and the tub is usable again within 24 to 48 hours.
• Full tub replacement: Commonly $3,000–$8,000+ once you factor in demo, plumbing, new tile or surround, and days of a bathroom being unusable.

When reglazing is the right fit

• The tub itself is structurally sound with no cracks through to the shell.
• The color or finish is dated (avocado green and almond are common in older Atlanta homes) but the shape and layout work fine.
• You want the bathroom back in service fast, especially in a home with only one bathroom.

When replacement makes more sense

• There's a structural crack or the tub has flexed and cracked through.
• You want to change the tub size, shape, or convert to a walk-in shower.
• There's water damage behind the tub surround that needs to be addressed anyway.

Materials matter

Cast-iron and porcelain tubs reglaze beautifully and hold the finish longest. Fiberglass and acrylic tubs can be reglazed too, but need a slightly different prep approach, which we'll walk you through during your free estimate.
