Backsplash Installation 101: What's Included (and What Isn't)

Aug 8, 2026 • Metro Atlanta

Backsplash quotes can look confusing because "installation" means different things to different contractors. Here's exactly what our backsplash service covers, and what you'll want to have ready before we start.

What's included in our labor

  • Layout and planning: Working out tile placement, pattern direction, and centering before anything goes on the wall.
  • Surface prep: Making sure the wall is clean, flat, and ready for adhesive.
  • Cuts and fitting: Precise cuts around outlets, corners, and under cabinets.
  • Outlet cutouts: Clean openings for existing switches and receptacles.
  • Grout work and edge finishing: Grouting, cleanup, and sealing at edges for a finished, professional look.

What's not included

  • Tile and materials: Our backsplash pricing is labor only. You choose and supply the tile, grout color, and any specialty trim pieces.
  • Electrical work: We cut clean openings around existing outlets, but we don't move wiring, add new outlets, or do panel work.
  • Countertop or cabinet changes: If cabinets or counters need to move to accommodate the new layout, that's a separate scope.

Picking the right tile for a first-time installer

Standard subway tile in a running-bond pattern is the fastest and most cost-effective option. Herringbone, mosaic sheets, and natural stone all look stunning but take more labor time due to the extra cuts and layout work involved, worth factoring into your budget.

Pricing

Backsplash installation runs $18–$28 per square foot for labor, with outlet cutouts and edge finishing included. Most kitchen backsplashes are completed in one to two days.
